We had the privilege of traveling to Memphis, TN this past weekend to see the first ever Super Why! Live tour, You’ve Got the Power! My children are big fans of the PBS Super Why show so they were excited from the moment I told them.
I think we didn’t really know exactly what to expect. Since I had read the reviews and looked into the sneak peaks I knew that there would be singing and dancing and it mentioned acrobatics but we were truly blown away.
We had a small issue getting our tickets, but the staff were very helpful and kind. Once the doors opened we entered into the Oprheum Theatre. It is a an older but still beautiful theater. It reminds me of an older theater I went to in the mid 90′s to see several operas in Utah.
Here we are before the show started. The kids were full of energy and excitement as you can see! The stage was set up with a bright Super Why logo hanging from the middle. Why we waited for the show to begin, upbeat music was played that was easy to sing along to. Once the show started, they delivered all that was promised.
Through song and dance the Super Why characters Wyatt, Pig, Red, Princess Pea and Woofster embark on the journey’s of finding who has the greatest “Super Power” of them all? During the show they take a journey to what each of the characters, if given the power wants to be. From an astronaut to silk aerial rope performer (termed Flipper by Red), to the captain of a ship you journey along with Super Why and his friends on their adventures. All the character encourage solving problems using their “Super Reader” powers; each one possesses a different “Super Power” ability from ABC to spelling to dictionary powers.
I love that the show builds up to empowering our young ones that they have the power to become whatever they want to be! The show is built on the theme of encouraging our young ones to turn to reading and that they too can solve problems by becoming a “Super Reader” themselves! With energetic songs and a remix of the Super Why theme song, you will find yourself tapping your toes and singing along with the Super Readers. With several bursts of confetti, lights and even some interaction with the crowd you will won’t find yourself distracted.
My children were beyond excited about the Super Why! Live show. I would highly recommend seeing the show if you have preschool aged children. Although there was a mix of ages in the crowd, my children’s ages 2 & 4 seemed to be the average. The youngest attendee we saw was a three-month old but there were also a good mix of 6-9 year olds as well. If you have young children, why not check to see if Super Why! Live is coming to a city near you! If so, let me encourage you to make the plunge and purchase a VIP pass. You will receive Super Why stage passes and posters as well as get access to a private meet & greet party with the characters.
Clearly my children had an amazing time! It was a great opportunity for the four of us as a family to have a great family day! I glanced over at Bryan holding Addie several times during the show and he seemed just as captured as she was. It truly was a show worth seeing!
I received special media passes for this event. I was not compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are 100% those of myself and my family.
