Show Your Plastic Challenge
The past few weeks we’ve been hunting ways to buy our produce plastic free. No produce bags, no prepackaged bags of produce. Looking for economic ways to get our fruits & veggies without consuming new plastic. Loose produce from either an organic grocer or local grower/farmers market has become our choice. It has come my attention, however, that some of our purchases from grocers are not entirely plastic free…(enter the produce stickers)
Have you ever noticed in your compost bin how the produce stickers never disappear but instead seem to reproduce? That’s because they’re made of PLASTIC. If we can’t avoid these little labels, what can we do with them instead of putting them in the landfill? After all they can’t be recycled.
Some creative minds have collected them and turned them into an art form. You & I can collect them in an envelope in our kitchen and send them to people such as, Barry Snyder, to produce beautiful mural mosaics. His art is showcased on his blog: StickermanProduceArt.
I have started saving our stickers to send to Wildman for his art. It’s a frugal way to reuse a small plastic
convenience annoyance. If we can’t avoid plastic, be creative and find a way to put it to good use!
